It is important when files are supplied for print, that they are configured correctly.
Accepted File Types
We currrently accept Indesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, postscript and PDF format files. If your file is created in another program and require assistance, please visit the Help / FAQ page for more information.
Fonts
It is normally advisable to outline or embed fonts before sending them to print, however if this is not possible be sure to send through the fonts used in your job.
Bleed
Due to the normal variation in printing, cutting and binding, elements that bleed (such as images or tabs) must extend 3mm beyond the edge of the page in order to avoid a visible white margin along the trimmed edges of the finished product.
Margins
In addition, images and text that do not bleed (including text within tabs) must be placed no closer than 5mm from the trimmed edge of the page. This is the “type safety” margin. Elements placed within this margin cause any variation in printing and binding to appear exaggerated. In addition, elements too close to the edge of the page, risk being cut off in the binding process. Text within tabs must also be set back from the trim edge by 5mm.
Colour Mode
It is important to ensure all files are supplied in CMYK format. For more information about this, read the Colour Modes information page.
Preflighting
Our pre-flight operators check for missing fonts and images, corrupt fonts, low resolution images or images in the wrong colour space, and elements in the layout (lack of bleed or type safety margin, hairline rules, etc.) that may cause problems in the production of your job. However, please be advised that this is just an overview and not an indepth check.
Please Note: We cannot check every element / page in your document. Ultimate responsibility for conformance to print specifications rest with the customer.
